We will be celebrating the beginning of a group that supports youth that would like to get more involved in the environment in their communities, province and across the world. The day will include planting of native trees and shrubs, some fun environmental games as well as prizes. Come along and bring your family and friends to experience a little bit of nature at its best. The party will be at the Community Garden site on Main Street, Burin on the dirt road to the soft ball field. Just follow the orange arrows. High schools students are encouraged to join as time spent with us can be used toward necessary volunteer hours required for school. Please remember to dress warm and be prepared to get dirty!

How we are trying to make this event "green":

Well many, many aspects of our program are green. First and foremost is the opportunity that we will provide to the youth of our communities to come together and express and discuss their interest in the environment which before now was considered non-exsistant. Not only will they get the opporunity to discuss these interest but if possible act on them. Next the program we have planned will include planting of native trees and shrubs. As well we will also be taking the students on nature walks, beach clean-up's and environmental research which will include taking part in the Atlantic Canada Shorebird Survey with Environment Canada. One more thing I must talk about is the participation that the group members will have in our Community Garden Initiative. The garden is a 100% organic, environmentaly friendly fruit and vegatable garden that has been made available to citizens of the peninsula. Not only will the participants get the opportunity to take part in the garden, but will also be working along side of other members of the garden. We hope this will spawn a stewardship ethic and renew a sence of community around the peninsula.
