Sustainability Education: Connecting Art, Science, and Design

The Center for Ecoliteracy is pleased to announce this new seminar, which will explore the roles of art, science, and design in promoting ecological literacy.
Fritjof Capra, author of The Science of Leonardo, will discuss how the art and science of the great Renaissance genius reflected his ecological perception of the natural world's unity. A diverse faculty, including educators, artists, and staff from the Center for Ecoliteracy, California Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, Biomimicry Guild, and River of Words, will engage participants in hands-on experiences using the arts to deepen understanding of the natural world. Participants will also investigate strategies for applying bio-inspired design to student projects. bio-inspired design to student projects.
Center for Ecoliteracy faculty include: Cofounder Fritjof Capra, director of education programs Carolie Sly, and creative director Karen Brown.
Adjunct faculty include: Ane Carla Rovetta, artist, naturalist, and storyteller; Louise Cadwell, artist, educator, and researcher of Italy's Reggio Emilia education philosophy; Emmet Brady from the Biomimicry Guild; Pamela Michael, director of River of Words; and staff and partners of the California Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
Breakfast and lunch, as well as course art supplies and materials, will be provided. Fee: $495
