Come discuss, and learn about green issues, green tactics, and green ideas at the Milwaukee Art Museum's Green Fair. The fair will include a green marketplace with green vendors, such as Outpost and Rishi Tea, as well as non-profits, such as Growing Power and the Urban Ecology Center. A Green Living symposium will feature Ken Dunn (Chicago City Farm) speaking about thinking green, James Godsil (Sweetwater Organics) speaking about eating green, Nik Kovak (Milwaukee Alderman) speaking about voting green, and the architects Kubala Washatko speaking about building green. The fair will also include curator and artist lead gallery tours of the Milwaukee Art Museum's Green Furniture exhibition, as well as DIY tables where you can learn how to create your own green products. Finally, look outside the museum's East gallery to observe Madison-based artist Hongtao Zhou create furniture out of the snow and ice found on the museum's grounds. The event is free with museum admission.
How we are trying to make this event "green":
The event is held in conjunction with MAM's Green Furniture exhibition, an exhibition of contemporary pieces made out of sustainable, recycled and recyclable materials. The idea behind the exhibition is to show that green can be both accessible and aesthetically pleasing. Being green is a sustainable way of life, and not a sacrifice. The exhibition's curators curated the show in a green fashion by not using paper throughout the planning process, biking a piece in from Chicago, using public transportation, and buying the pieces so as to not have to ship them back. Visitors are encouraged to touch, sit and interact with all of the green furniture. The Green Fair is a continuation of Green Furniture and the idea that green is accessible. Vendors sell eco-friendly products, non-profits distribute eco-friendly information, and the symposium's speakers will discuss living green in today's world. |
