Our graduates, Bee-Blossom will be preparing light refreshments.

Advocating Zero Waste
GREEN WORKER COOPERATIVES is a South Bronx-based organization dedicated to incubating worker-owned and environmentally friendly cooperatives in the South Bronx. Our approach is a response to high unemployment and decades of environmental racism. We don’t have the luxury to wait for new alternatives. That’s why we’re creating them. We believe that in order to address our environmental and economic problems we need new ways to earn a living that don’t require polluting the earth or exploiting human labor.
• Our first co-op, ReBuilders Source, is a model for the construction industry, recovering salvaged building materials like sinks, doors, tiles, and more and making it available to the public at a fraction of what other home improvement stores charge.
• The Co-op Academy training program is an innovative approach to incubating new worker-owned green businesses, and this year has six new co-ops in development.
• Because of our hard work people are now coming to us in groups and saying “We’ve got an idea for a new business, will you help us?” And they’re saying “Yes!” to being green, “Yes!” to worker-ownership, and “Yes!” to the South Bronx.
