SolarDay 2010 is a national celebration of clean technology, energy independence and protection of our precious planet.
On June 19th from 2 – 5 pm there will be a Green Living and Solar House Tour. Two homeowners of grid-tied solar systems will host SolarDay tours, showing off their systems and explaining the financial and environmental impact. The homes are located at 16312 Old Caspar Railroad Road, Fort Bragg and 1650 N. Highway 1 in Little River. These tours are hosted by Mendocino Solar Service.
Mendocino Solar Service staff will be there to answer questions and explain the technical aspects of the installations. Energy efficiency and green-building materials will be discussed by staff from Dancing Dog Design Build at the Fort Bragg Home and by Artistic Building at the Little River home. Noyo Food Forest will be on hand at the Fort Bragg home to give spring garden suggestions and talk about the BEANS (Better Eating Activity and Nutrition for Students) Program. The Food Forest will also bring their pedal powered smoothie bike. Also present at the Fort Bragg home will be a representative from the Mendocino Coast Transition Towns movement (This is a new community-based organization devoted to changing our economy so that it is sustainable, local, and resilient: www.transitionus.org).
Solar ovens will be build using cardboard and foil at both homes – a great activity for the kids. Solar ovens will be cooking up goodies through out the tours. Food and beverages will be provided. Win door prizes and pick up tips on how to lead a greener lifestyle.
