Since its debut in 2003 the Moab Folk Festival has embraced a definition of “folk” music that reaches beyond traditional boundaries. The festival’s eclectic mix has attracted Bluegrass, indie folk-rock, folk-fringe punk, celtic-folk and modern acoustic artists and past performances by Bruce Cockburn, Eileen Ivers, Tony Furtado, Tish Hinojosa, Laura Love, Blackfire, Tim O’Brien, James Keeleghan, Chris Smithers and Christine Lavin have given the festival a reputation as one of the country’s finest showcases.
From its beginning the Moab Folk Festival has been an event with a community-minded spirit, offering excellent education programs for kids of all ages, as well as a series of music workshops, free community concerts and numerous jam sessions free to the public. In addition, the festival is a “100% renewable energy” festival, using wind energy supplied by Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky Program to offset its carbon footprint. How we are trying to make this event "green":
The Festival’s Green Mission: Small Footprint, Big Music...
The Moab Folk Festival staff is proud to present another year of wind powered festivities. All events are powered 100% by wind generated electricity from a generous donation by Rocky Mountain Power. Energy for artist transportation is also offset by wind power. All venues are also fully supported by Canyonlands Community Recycling Center, The Solutions, and Green Solutions — please be conscious of the recycling bins and help us keep Grand County and Moab beautiful!
The festival is a pedestrian friendly event! All of our venues are located in historic downtown Moab and are within walking distance of each other. Outdoor performances will be held in the Moab Ball Field, an easy walk from Main Street, which offers panoramic views of red rock country and the La Sal Mountains. Evening performances will be at the Grand County High School auditorium and historic Star Hall. Help further reduce carbon emissions during the festival by walking between the venues!
