Welcome to the Ninth International Ecocity Conference. You are here to change the world. Back in the USA, which you can see from Mount Royal here, our current President was elected on a platform of change. We all personally change the world in our small ways, but how can the world recognize that the largest of human products – the city – needs to change most fundamentally? The cause of so many of our problems; it could become the solution. The city based on massive energy use and machines can transform to become the city of the future, based on ecologically informed design for people. We are gathered here to be the transformers, the messengers, our responsibility profound, and a creative pleasure to enjoy.
