Forum for the Forest. Why are forests important? Learn about the natural forests we all depend on...from eight expert speakers who value forests for their importance to all Californian's and the world. California's natural forests are rapidly being clearcut and converted to tree plantations and subdivisions. Why are California's forests important? They provide lumber products but what else? Forests provide clear air, and clean water. Forests provide jobs in local communities. Natural maturing forests are habitat for millions of plants, animals and fungi ... California's natural forests--on millions of acres of private forest lands--are being converted to tree farms. Tree farms are single-species, even-age, and more and more Genetically Engineered trees.
On Sunday morning, the day after the Forum for the Forest in Redding, anyone can tour three forests, for approximately four hours, with foresters and forum speakers. We will tour a small-scale logging company, in business for over 80 years, that does not clearcut, a recently clearcut forest and a tree farm. We will not be trespassing on private property... it is not necessary in order to see the deforestation that has occurred in the last twenty years. You will be driving or carpooling to each forest. Please RSVP at Doddle http://www.doodle.com/qq6yfwdrxyv2cai5
Sliding scale tax deductible donation $5 - $10 per person or family. No one turned away for lack of funds.
Can't make it to Redding? The Forum will be webcast.
How we are trying to make this event "green":
The goal of this forum is to keep California's forests green. There is nothing greener than a healthy natural maturing forest.
