See what established home-scale urban farmers are up to and what is possible on a small. medium, large, or extra large urban lot.
The Institute of Urban Homesteading's Urban Farm Tours take place at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. next Sunday in Oakland and Berkeley. Choose up to three farms to visit; each tour lasts up to 45 minutes. $5 per tour; $3 for children under 12.
To register and receive maps and directions, contact the institute via their website linked above.
Each tour will last about 45 minutes with time in-between for travel to the next location should you want to visit several farms. You will see fruit & vegetable gardens, composting systems, rabbits, goats, bees, greywater and more, plus you will get to sample some of what these urban farmers are producing. Each homestead is unqiue in its interpretation and use of space. This will be a chance to ask questions about animals, gardening, techniques, greywater systems, rainwater harvesting and more. Tours start at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm at each location. Pick & choose your sites, go to one, two or three locations. Please do arrive on time as a courtesy to the farmers.
