Passive solar heating, cooling, venting, monitoring of energy use, insulation, and so much more. These are just some of a suite of tricks and tips that we’ll learn from George and Ellen Beeler, longtime Daily Actors who have reduced their resource use so much and so creatively that last spring they were the first home in northern California to meet the Thousand Home Challenge (THC) for energy efficiency. The Thousand Home Challenge national program acknowledges pioneering homeowners who lead the way in showing how to renovate existing homes to dramatically reduce energy use to a level necessary for addressing climate change. Of all the homes this national organization has studied, George and Ellen’s home uses the least amount of energy with the least amount of technological fixes, because much of their reductions have come from behavior changes. We'll also take a sneak-peak inside an average single-family home with Arthur Beeken, a Building Performance Instititue credentialed, building performance contractor, trainer, coach, and Proctor. This tour will leave you inspired and empowered to create cozy nooks within your own home and start employing energy reduction principles today.
